Our Board of The GDPKenya has voted to name our SEVINK-Kenya in the honor of Prof. Njeri Wamae as The Prof. Njeri Wamae SEVINK Vision Institute. We are proud and honored to have Dr. Njeri Wamae as Advisory Councilor for The GDP.

Dr. Wamae is a Professor of Tropical Medicine.
She holds a PhD’95 and MSPH’85 (Tropical Medicine) from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as a BS’80 (Parasitology and Medical Entomology) from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, USA.
Previously, she was Chief Research Officer; Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Director; Centre for Microbiology Research, KEMRI.
She is the Founding Director; Eastern and Southern Africa Centre of International Parasite Control (ESACIPAC).
Prof. Wamae was the former Chairperson of KNGWECC where she was instrumental in Kenya's certification as WHO Guinea worm disease-free in 2018.
More recently, she was Board Chairperson; Kenya National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI), as well as
Member; Steering Group - Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis, UK (GAELF).
She has held positions of Dean; School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, United States International University-Africa,
Dean; Directorate of Research and Development, Kenya Methodist University,
Lecturer; Mount Kenya University, Institute of Tropical Medicine/Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Kenya Medical Training College,
Visiting Professor/Researcher; Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, Japan,
Guest Researcher; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia,
Councilor; American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene-Global Health Committee,
Prof. Wamae is a Member; Expert Committee on Elimination and Certification of Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (Kenya),
Board Member; Kajiado County Health Service, Board Member; Operation Eyesight Universal, Canada (Kenya Office), and
Member; Advisory Board-THRIVE-Uganda.
Dr. Wamae is a pre-qualified Commission of University Education reviewer of university programs for accreditation in Kenya.
Prof. Njeri Wamae has published over seventy publications of which about sixty five are in peer-reviewed journals. She has supervised nineteen post graduate students (eighteen to completion).
She reviews manuscripts for various local and international scientific journals and serves on consultancies.
Prof. Wamae is a member of the WHO (Geneva) Expert Committee, Parasitic Diseases (Filariasis).
In 2020, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) recognized Prof. Njeri’s work in tropical medicine and admitted her to the highly coveted membership as ASTMH Distinguished International Fellow. Earlier in 2018, the Society awarded her one of its highest medals, the Clara Southmayd Ludlow Medal for her Pioneering and Inspirational Spirit.
She is also the awardee of 2018 TOFAC’s Nelson Mandela Distinguished Africanist Award.
In 2015, she was decorated by the Head of State (Kenya) with the commendation; Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) for her distinguished service to the Nation.
